Rare nugget of welsh gold by MuseumWales on Flickr.
The Queen has bequeathed Prince William Welsh Gold for a wedding band for Catherine Middleton. The use of this gold is a tradition in the royal family, first dating back to the Queen Mother’s wedding in 1923. The rings of the Queen, Princess Anne, Princess Margaret, Diana Princess of Wales, Sarah Ferguson, and Camilla Parker Bowles have all contained the scarce gold.
Information and photo from MuseumWales:
A 6.5 g waterworn nugget of welsh gold, 20 mm in length. Found in 2001 following severe flash-floods on the Afon Wen, Gwynedd. Nuggets of this size are now exceptionally rare in Wales. © J.S. Mason. For more information, see the Museums online crystal gallery
